H-4245 Sand Density Apparatus
Sand density apparatus determines the in-place density of soils. Set includes 1-gal. threaded jar, detachable double cone consisting of a brass cylindrical valve with a 1/2" dia. orifice. Valve has stops that prevent rotating past completely open or completely closed positions. Bottom cone 6-1/2" dia. flanged opening fits the opening of the H-4246 field density plate (order separately). Meets ASTM D1556; AASHTO T191.
H-4246 Density Plate
Used with H-4245 density apparatus to simplify removal of soil from test mold and act as template to control hole diameter. Cast aluminum alloy. Size 12 x 12".
HM-106 Density Sand 50lb Bag
Clean, dry, free-flowing uncemented sand has few, if any, particles passing the No. 200 (75mm) or retained on the No. 10 (2.00mm) sieves. Meets ASTM D1556; AASHTO T191.

H-4248 Sand Density Cone


For determining in-place density of gravel and coarse soils. Features two identical cones (top cone is clear plastic) with large valve in middle and circular density plate. Flange that fits the lower cone allows apparatus to be used on holes up to 12" (305mm) dia. Meets U.S. Army Corps of Engineers specifications.
H-4166 Voluvessel, 1/20 ft3 Capacity
Voluvessels determine the in-place density of compacted or firmly-bonded soils using a rubber balloon apparatus viewed through a graduated, direct-reading clear plastic cylinder. Model features a plastic cylinder, which screws into the density plate with the pump assembly mounted on top. They come with a pressure-vacuum pump assembly, pressure gauge, quick coupler valve, double-graduated cylinder, 10 balloons and a density plate and meet ASTM D2167; AASHTO T205.
Voluvessels are not suitable for soft soils that will deform under slight pressure or in which the volume of the hole cannot be maintained at a constant value.

H-4116 Voluvessel, 1/20 ft3 Capacity with Metal Casing

The model H-4116 Voluvessel presents a slightly different design, in that it includes a metal casing to protect the plastic cylinder; and, it has the pump assembly mounted to the base. It comes with a pressure-vacuum pump assembly, pressure gauge, quick coupler valve, double-graduated cylinder, 10 balloons and a density plate and meet ASTM D2167; AASHTO T205.


S-200 Dynamic Cone Penetrometer & Hand Auger Set

The DCP uses a 15 lb steel mass falling 20 in that strikes the anvil to cause penetration of a 1.5 in diameter cone (45° vertex angle) that has been seated in the bottom of a hand augered hole. The blows required to drive the embedded cone a depth of 1-3/4 in have been correlated by others to N values derived from the Standard Penetration Test (SPT). Experience has shown that the DCP can be used effectively in augered holes to depths of 15 to 20 ft. Heat treated cone, zinc plated components. The cone can be replaced with a plated Drive Tube Assembly for collection of 3 x 10 in tube samples in hand augered holes.

H-4219 Dual-Mass Dynamic Cone Penetrometer

The H-4219 is designed in full compliance with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers specifications for weight and design. Its heavy-duty design utilizes threaded connections for accurate, positive operation during test procedure. It features a machined taper and grooves on bottom of hammer mass, which significantly aids in easier lifting of the mass and safer operation. The H-4219 utilizes the original Corps' design of 1 meter long drive rods and offers unique 6 and 9 meter long drive rods for operations where augered holes are used to get test data at extended depths. These one-piece long drive rods make testing fast and efficient in these applications. The standard unit includes: dual-mass slide hammer assembly, 1 meter drive rod with hardened tip, 1 meter drive rod with disposable cone tip adapter, 100 disposable tips, vertical scale, go, no go gauge, all necessary wrenches, user manual with spreadsheet software template and crush-proof Pelican carrying case.

4502 Double Ring Infiltrometer
Ideal for field testing, as well as lab use. Two stainless steel rings measure 12 and 24 dia x 20"H. Rings have double thick welded top edge for increased stability when driving into the soil. A mariotte tube provides a constant head of water for flow tests. Graduations on the side of the tube used to determine flow rate. Sealed adjusting tube raises or lowers the head inside the infiltrometer ring. Main flow valve in base platform, bleed valve next to adjusting tube seal. Includes: 1/2" thick aluminum driving cap with centering pins; two 6" square neoprene splash guards; and two mariotte tubes with 3,000 ml and 10,000 ml capacities. Meets ASTM D3385.

PP-100 Soil Pocket Penetrometer


Spring operated device measures strength in tons per sq. ft. or kg per sq. cm. Simply push the device's loading piston into soil to a depth of .25". A friction ring indicates maximum reading. Includes an allen wrench and carrying case with belt loop. A special adaptor foot is available as an option for use in very sensitive soils.

S-215 Static Cone Penetrometer w/ Dial Indicator
Used in fine-grained, soft soils at shallow foundation and pavement subgrades to evaluate for soil consistency, level of compaction and bearing capacity. Unmatched for accuracy, reliability and ease of use. Pressure gauge with 0-70kg/cm is scaled for direct reading of cone stress, eliminating proving ring conversions. Dual rod design eliminates soil friction factor. High strength aluminum and steel construction. Standard model includes a 60° cone with 1.5 cm. max. area, a 24" starter rod assembly rated at 250 lbf axial force max., and a pressure gauge.
HS-4210 Static Cone Penetrometer, Digital
The HS-4210 Digital, Static Cone Penetrometer (DSCP), with its large, digital readout, makes testing and recording readings easy. The DSCP can be used to evaluate soil consistency by determining the soil’s level of compaction and/or the bearing capacity. The DSCP is especially useful in evaluating shallow foundations and pavement subgrades where fine-grained and soft soils are being used. The DSCP can also be used to aid technicians in quickly selecting sites for testing, as well as correlating with other tests, based on local conditions, such as standard or modified Proctor, CBR or Bearing Capacity. The DSCP uses a dual-rod design, which eliminates the need to correct for soil friction on the rod as the cone is pushed through the material. Penetration resistance is read directly from the cone tip and registered on the digital display. The Unit comes with a 30” starter rod and a 60° cone with a 1.5cm,2 area.

Drive Head For determining in-place density of soil by driving a thin-walled tube into the soil mass to obtain a relativity undisturbed sample. Typically used to verify compacted fill placement, or to obtain samples from the bottom of shallow excavations. Zinc-plated, steel drive head and sliding weight hammer used with separately ordered drive tubes. Drive head, 10 lb., has shock reducing spring to guard against fatigue failure. S-110 Standard Hand Auger Assembly

The Hand Auger with unique hard-faced and cupped blades is ideal for augering shallow holes in fine grained soils. Little effort is needed to turn the auger and advance the hole as the blade diameter exceeds the bucket diameter by to produce a 3-5/8 in diameter hole.  S-110 Hand Auger Assembly consist of an auger head, tee handle and an extension with connectors. A cross handle with rubber grips is optional.

H-4250 Spiral Type Auger
For use in sampling soils, auger has 1-1/2" dia. x 4" long spiral-type auger bit. Features graduation marks every 6". Overall length is 36", including handle. Screw-on handle permits attachment of H-4251 extension for sampling beyond 36" depths. Meets ASTM D420, D1452; AASHTO T86, T202.

H-4120 Corps of Engineers Cone Penetrometer
Designed to evaluate soil trafficability and manufactured to Corps of Engineers specifications. The factory calibrated dial indicator reads directly in psi. Includes 30 degree cone with 1/2 sq. in. base area, 150 Ib capacity proving ring, dial indicator calibrated direct 0–300psi in 5psi increments, extension rod 5/8" dia x 19", plus handle.
H-4139 Proctor Penetrometer Set
Establishes the moisture-penetration resistance relations of fine-grained soils. Includes these interchangeable needles (area in sq. in. or sq. cm): 1 (6.45), 3/4 (4.84), 1/2 (3.22), 1/3 (2.15), 1/5 (1.29), 1/10 (.65), 1/20 (0.32) 1/30 (0.22cm2) and 1/40 (0.16cm2). The S-173-48 Fiberglass Probe Rod is safe, non-conducting probe is ideal for locating irrigation, power and water lines. The shaft diameter is 1/2 inch and has a zinc tip and a 13¾-in Tee Bar Handle. The Steel Probe Rod is used to locate soft zones in and under compacted areas or sub grades, footing excavations, etc. The S-171 Steel Probe Rod has a 3-ft long shaft by 1/2-in. diameter. It is zinc plated.


H-4204 Proving Ring Penetrometer
Used to determine the bearing capacity of subgrades, or to measure soil compaction. Light and easy to handle in the field. A rapid means of determining the penetration resistance of soil in shallow exploration surveys. Includes: 30°, 1 sq. in. cone; 250 Ib. capacity proving ring; brake type dial indicator, holds final reading until manually released; 3/4" dia shaft, graduated at 6", intervals; 3/4" dia extension rod, graduated at 6" intervals; cast aluminum T-handle.

H-4241M Pocket Shear Vane Set-Metal


This device is recommended for the rapid determination of shear strength of cohesive soils, in either the field or laboratory. The tester may be used for in-place testing of pits or trenches It permits the determination of a large number of strength values with different orientation of failure planes. It is simple to use with sample trimming eliminated. All that is needed is a reasonably flat surface 25mm in diameter. It gives repeatable values in homogeneous clay. Extensive laboratory testing indicates excellent agreement between the unconfined compression test and the shear tester. The simultaneous use of the TST and a pocket penetrometer allows rapid evaluation of the degree of the internal friction of soil in shear strength or to determine if the soil is essentially cohesive.

S-180 Field CBR Test Set
The Field CBR Test Set follows the U.S. Army COE and ASTM recommendations. The set includes a three speed 10,000 lbf (45 kN) Mechanical Jack, an 8 ft long Dial Support Bridge, Piston, Piston Extension and Connector sets. The Penetration Dial Gauge is provided with a magnetic holder. A Surcharge Plate, three Surcharge Masses and Proving Ring completes the Set.  Meets ASTM D4429.

Hand-lever operated, soil strength classifier provides fast manual approximations of unconfined compressive strength on many soil types in the field or lab. Platen accepts up to 2" sample diameters and up to 4-1/2" lengths. Reads loads on 4-1/4" dial face with ±1% of dial capacity as held with second maximum-reading pointer. Dial has 1 lbf divisions on outer scale, 1 kgf divisions on inner scale. Unit has cast aluminum housing. Base dimensions are: 5-3/4 x 10-1/4", drilled for optional bench mounting. Calibration spring confirms proper operation; order separately.

HM-940 Soil Resistivity Kit
The HM-940 Soil Resistivity Kit utilizes the four electrode method developed by the National Bureau of Standards and commonly known as the Wenner 4-pin Method. The resultant value of the test is the average resistivity of the soil to a depth equal to the spacing between adjacent electrodes (soil pins). This kit is designed for a maximum pin spacing of 20 ft., recommended for a standard survey.

The Reel is made up of a 4 color-coded lead wires harnessed together and mounted on a lightweight reel. Lead ends connect to the reel hub with banana plugs and terminate at the opposite end with spring-loaded clamps. Jumper leads are included for connection to the test meter. Soil Pins are 3/8" dia. x 18" stainless steel with T-handles. The plexiglas Soil Box, for laboratory testing, has inside dimensions of 9x2.5x1.5", LxWxD. Easily removable potential pins are of brass and current plates are of stainless steel. Set of 4 Soil Box Leads are 24" in length.

The complete HM-940 Kit consists of the Soil Resistivity Reel, four Heavy Duty Soil Pins, Soil Box and Soil Box Leads, all in a sturdy plastic custom carrying case. A resistivity meter is not included in this kit.

HM-941 Nilsson 400 Soil Resistivity Meter
The Nilsson 400 Soil Resistance Meter can be used with the kit to provide soil resistance values read directly from the analog dial of the meter. No calculations are necessary. The wide-range , high sensitivity meter has large, 100-division dial for easy readability and 8 ranges from 0.1 ohm to 1.1 megohm. Rugged, weatherproof case is 9x6x8", LxWxD.
HSM-2100 Guelph Permeameter Kit
The Guelph Permeameter is an easy to use instrument for quickly and accurately measuring in-situ hydraulic conductivity. Accurate evaluation of soil hydraulic conductivity, soil sorptivity, and matrix flux potential can be made in all types of soils. The equipment can be transported, assembled, and operated easily by one person. Measurements can be made in 1/2 to 2 hours, depending on soil type, and require only about 2.5 liters of water. Measurements can be made in the range of 15 to 75 cm below the soil surface. The Guelph Permeameter is a complete kit consisting of the permeameter, field tripod, well auger, well preparation and cleanup tools, collapsible water container, and vacuum test hand pump, all packaged in a durable carrying case. Meets ASTM D5126.
H-4368 Soil Color Charts
Soil color is measured by comparing with color chart. Set includes nine hue charts displaying 322 colors on a neutral gray chart stock. Apertures are cut between the adjacent color chips so sample may be evaluated directly against the standard colors. Charts, diagrams and interleaves fit into a six-ring looseleaf binder. Charts are 7-1/4 x 4-1/4", small enough for field use.
